Biography

Matt Nolan

Holding a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Synthesis from Berklee College of Music, Matt Nolan has a hollistic vision for music, art, movement, and light.

At George Mason University, Matt is a co-founder of the successful Computer game Design Program under the direction of the dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the assistant dean for Technology, Research and Advancement. (http://www.fairfaxtimes.com/cms/story.php?id=1406) He is also a member of the College Diversity Commitee, a founding member of the Computer Game Design Program's Advisory Board, and an Instructional and Administrative Faculty member. He is currently pursuing a Master's of Music in Music Composition from GMU.

He has Lectured at Tuft's University, George Mason University, The Smithsonian Institute's Hirschorn Museum in Washington DC, and teaches for George Mason University and the Potomac Arts Academy (http://music.gmu.edu/potomac/index.html).

He specializes in Real-time MIDI, Digital Audio, Sound Design, Game Audio, Music Compsition, Participatory Entertainment, and Participatory Education design, prototyping, and delivery.

His programming and interactivity work has been used and performed at SICMF Seoul Korea , 2007 Florida Electro-Acoustic Music Festival at the University of Florida, Berklee College of Music, George Mason University's Center for the Arts, and New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) 2007 at the Columbia University Computer Music Center as part of NYC Electronic Arts Festival.

Matt Nolan and his colleague Andrew Beck were mentioned in the October 2007 issue of Mix magazine for their creative use of Nintendo Wii Remote to control real-time sound synthesis and video effects.

He lives in Catlett,VA with his dog, his two cats and his girlfriend Jamie. When not working at Mason or composing Music, Matt enjoys Organic Gardening, Painting, Frisbee, and BMX bikes. Ask him about France sometime.
